Ethel B. Durbin, 89, Cresson, died Thursday at Altoona Regional Health System, Altoona Hospital Campus. She was born in Jeannette, daughter of the late Glenn and Mame Welsh. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles W., who died Aug. 28, 1977. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She is survived by daughters: Pene Durbin of Orlando, Fla., and Mary Frances Leap (John) of Duncansville; grandchildren: James C. Guzic of Orlando, Fla., Annette Smychynsky (Joseph) of Lilly, Jennifer (Leap) Smith (Brian) of Hollidaysburg, John Leap (Victoria) of Hagerstown, Md., Brian Leap (Robyn) of Baltimore and Angeline Leap (fiance, Joseph Pavlik) of Pittsburgh; great-grandchildren: Olivia and J.C. Smychynsky, Madalyn and Jared Smith, and Ava Leap; and nieces and nephews.
She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and Senior Citizens, all of Cresson. She was also a Red Cross volunteer.
Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Charles M. Kennedy Funeral Home, Cresson, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Francis Xavier Church, Cresson, by the Rev. George M. Gulash. Committal at church cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Cresson Ambulance or Cresson Volunteer Fire Company.
