Man taken into custody after shots fired

September 2, 2008

A standoff ended peacefully Tuesday morning at a Second Avenue home, Altoona police said.

Officers were called to Second Avenue for a report of shots fired, Lt. Jeffrey Pratt said.

Ronald D. Shultz, 116 Second Ave., fired a 12-gauge shotgun at a neighbor during a dispute about 10:30 a.m. No one was injured.

Shultz barricaded himself inside the home, but Deputy Chief Robert Seymore and Lt. Anthony Alianello coaxed him into surrendering, Pratt said. He was taken to the Altoona police station for questioning.

Officers seized about 20 weapons, including shotguns, long guns and samurai swords.

Shultz had yet to be arraigned Tuesday afternoon.

Mirror reporters are working on a story for Wednesday's newspaper.
