Storms knock out electricity to 2,000
From Mirror staff reportsAbout 2,000 Blair County Penelec customers were left without electricity Sunday afternoon and evening after heavy thunderstorms rolled through the area.
About 780 Altoona residents lost power about 4:30 p.m. when a tree fell on power lines on 18th Avenue, said Beverly Green, Penelec spokeswoman.
Green also said there were various outages affecting individual customers and larger groups of customers throughout the county.
Trees knocking down power lines were blamed for some of those outages, Green said.
A lightning strike at about 5:13 p.m. caused outages along Cayuga Avenue, including the Altoona Mirror, Green said. Power was restored at the Mirror about 7:45 p.m.
All customers affected by the outages were expected to have their power restored by midnight, Green said.

Stupid trees! One moment you're enjoying their shade, and the next moment they're knocking down your power lines. They deserve all the blame. You just can't trust them, especially when they know you have a chainsaw in your garage.
