Hollidaysburg’s Pat Smith was selected as a first-team pitcher and an honorable mention designated hitter, and four other Golden Tigers were recognized as the Central Penn Baseball League unveiled its 2008 all-star team at Hoss’s in State College Wednesday night.
In addition to Smith, Aaron Kovach and Tyler Sell made it as a second-team second baseman and outfielder, respectively, from Hollidaysburg. Kovach made honorable mention at third base, as well.
Golden Tigers Derek Coppersmith (catcher) and Matt Taylor (outfield) also garnered honorable mention.
The only other players from the Mirror coverage area to make the team were Matt Curtis and J.D. Mason, both of Philipsburg-Osceola. Curtis was an honorable mention shortstop. Mason was picked as an honorable mention outfielder.
FIRST TEAM
First base — A.J. Robinson (Bald Eagle Area). Second base — Nick Beamenderfer (Lewistown). Shortstop — Christian Muth (Punxsutawney), Elliot Searer (Lewistown). Third base — Christian Muth (Punxsutawney). Catcher — Jon Steele (Williamsport).
Outfield — Bob Donato (Williamsport), Ken Farnsworth (State College), Casey Zimmerman (Lewistown). Designated hitter — Tyler Wingard (Punxsutawney). Pitchers — Anthony Houser (Central Mountain), Pat Smith (Hollidaysburg).
SECOND TEAM
First base — Joe Smith (State College). Second base — Scott Glass (State College), Aaron Kovach (Hollidaysburg). Shortstop — Mike Krider (State College). Third base — Will Pryor (State College). Catcher — Josh Wensel (Bellefonte).
Outfield — Mark Ayoub (State College), Alex Haines (Lewistown), Braedon Pennington (Punxsutawney), Joe Pillot (Bald Eagle Area), Tyler Sell (Hollidaysburg). Designated hitter — Joe Texidor (State College). Pitchers — Christian Muth (Punxsutawney), Mike Seewald (Williamsport).
HONORABLE MENTION
