Carol L. Newberry, 70, Altoona, died Monday morning at the Van Zandt VA Medical Center.
She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Alvin Jr. and Margaret (Cruse) McCall. She was twice married: first to Robert R. Stoner and then to William L. Newberry, Oct. 25, 1986. in Altoona. He died Nov. 13, 2006.
Surviving are six children: Deborah L. and husband, David Dickson, with whom she resided, Kathy and husband, Lew McKinney, Vicki and husband, Terry Lynn, Becky and husband, Bob Seasoltz, Kevin Stoner, and William and wife, Susan Newberry, all of Altoona; four stepchildren: Deborah and husband, Donald Kirkwood, Brenda Futrell Newberry and Donald and James Newberry, all of Altoona; 15 grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; three great-grandchildren; 11 stepgreat-grandchildren; a sister, Nancy McCall of Altoona; and two brothers: Drexell and Riley McCall, both of Altoona.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Alvin McCall III; five sisters: Virginia, Peggy and Pamela McCall, Shirley Hileman and Christine Jarrett; and a stepdaughter, Selene Newberry.
Mrs. Newberry retired as a dietary aide worker from Altoona Hospital and been employed as a waitress at Ray’s Diner.
She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church.
Mrs. Newberry was a 1955 graduate of Hollidaysburg High School.
She served in the U.S. Navy.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Daniel R. Myers Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home by Pastor Betty Landis. Interment at Grandview Cemetery with military honors.
