SIDMAN — The Cambria Heights softball team scored three runs in the fourth and two more in the sixth. That was enough runs to back Marlena Carnicella’s one-hit pitching as the Lady Highlanders rose to 2-0 with a 5-1 Laurel Highlands Conference win Thursday.

Kayla Cymbor and Makaela Vescovi each drove in a pair of runs for Heights. Kayleigh Wolfhope’s one-out single in the first was the only hit against Carnicella, who struck out nine.

MARTINSBURG — Claysburg blasted three home runs in improving to 2-0.

Kara Williams’ inside-the-park grand slam in the seventh was the exclamation point on an offensive performance that also included a two-run homer by Christina Claar in the sixth and a Monica Iachini solo shot in the second. Claar finished with four RBIs.

Iachini also had a triple, while Krysta Gerheim doubled, singled and knocked in two runs. Kelsey Ickes spaced eight hits in getting the win.
