Pryor, nation's star QB, not ready to sign

February 6, 2008
The Altoona Mirror

Today's national letter-of-intent day for college football propsects, and there are conflicting reports on whether the nation's top star -- Jeannette quarterback Terrelle Pryor -- will announce his plans.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported Tuesday that Pryor will hold a news conference today and likely pick Ohio State. The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, however, reported late Tuesday night that Pryor will not sign today.

That was confirmed by various other recruiting Web sites.

The latest development could be good news for Penn State, which has been making a late charge at the gifted quarterback.

"I'm 100 percent sure I'm not signing [Wednesday]," Pryor told the Tribune-Review. "It's a tough decision, and I'm still trying to decide between Ohio State, Michigan and Penn State."

Pryor  has eliminated Oregon after telling the Oregon coaches the school was too far from home. Pryor said he'll now probably make a visit to Penn State. He has made several unofficial visits to Happy Valley but has yet to make an official visit.

Joe Paterno, quarterbacks coach Jay Paterno and defensive coordinator Tom Bradley, who spearheaded Pryor's recruitment, visited with Pryor in Jeannette last week. It was one of the only off-campus visits JoePa made during this recruiting season.

Wednesday is the first day high school football players can sign a binding letter of intent. Pryor was expected to announce his decision at noon on ESPNU and CSTV, but Jeannette coach Ray Reitz told the Tribune-Review Pryor still plans to meet with the media to answer a few questions.
