Residents can sponsor pets for holidays

December 5, 2007
The Altoona Mirror
The Central Pennsylvania Humane Society is offering a way to help homeless animals this holiday season without actually adopting them.

CPHS has kicked off its ‘‘Sponsor a Pet for the Holidays’’ campaign. For a minimum donation of $100, individuals, families, businesses, office workers or groups of friends can sponsor a CPHS ‘‘resident’’ animal throughout the holiday season. The campaign runs through Jan. 31.

The money will go directly to feed and care for one animal. In return for the donation, CPHS will post a flier on each animal’s cage that notes the sponsorship (it can be directly attributed to the sponsor or ‘‘in memory’’ or ‘‘in honor’’ of a person (or animal) of their choice.

Sponsorships are available for any of the animals (about 60) housed at the shelter while they wait for new homes.

People interested in sponsoring can choose a particular animal (dog, cat, rabbit) if they like or allow the shelter to choose.

The shelter staff will place the flier on the animal’s cage. If the pet is adopted, the flier will move to another cage to denote the continuing sponsorship.

For more information on sponsoring an animal or to purchase a Picture Perfect Pet 2008 calendar, call Dave Hopkins at 942-2477.
