Registration deadline looming
POSTED: October 2, 2007
In five weeks, decisions will be made that will directly impact our communities.
Will you have a say, or will inaction leaving you sitting on the sidelines?
On Nov. 6, county commissioners, school board members, borough council members, township supervisors, city council members, county controllers and more will be elected. These people will determine, among other things, the rules you will live under, the government services available, the resources available to educate your children and the taxes to pay for all of this.
They even could play a big role in determining whether there is a reassessment, despite what county commissioners might want. A municipality or school district can sue in an attempt to get a court order mandating a reassessment. The Bedford Area School District has started down that path.
You have more than a month to choose who you want making those decisions. But you have to be registered to vote by Oct. 9 in order to cast a ballot. That’s a week from today. That’s also the deadline to make changes to your registration, in case you have changed your address or have a new last name because of marriage.
Information on how to sign up to vote or to update your information is available from county voter registration offices. In Blair County, the number is 693-3150.
Registering to vote is easy, and it gives you a say in choosing who's running our counties, our municipalities and our schools. Don’t be silenced. Register to vote today.
