ST. MARYS, Pa. (AP) — A man killed in an explosion at a Mersen USA plant in western Pennsylvania last week has been identified as a worker visiting from New Jersey.
Elk County Coroner Michelle Muccio and Mersen officials have confirmed the victim was 52-year-old Arwed Ralf Uecker.
Uecker had worked for the company for 28 years and was global director of research and development for Mersen USA Bn Group, which was based in Boonton, N.J.
Uecker was visiting the plant in St. Marys, about 100 miles northeast of Pittsburgh, when an oven exploded Thursday morning, killing him and injuring two other workers. One remained hospitalized in stable condition, while the other was treated and released.
Company officials haven't commented on the cause of the blast, which is being investigated by the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
