The big showdown Sept. 22 will air on ABC at 3:30 p.m. to a nationwide audience.
There had been some concern the Big Ten Network would carry the game, which would anger legions of PSU fans who don’t have access to the channel through their cable provider. The Nittany Lions’ game against Buffalo this week will be on the BTN at noon.
Penn State may not have to face Michigan quarterback Chad Henne, who suffered a left knee injury Saturday against Oregon and will not play this week against Notre Dame.
Wolverines coach Lloyd Carr said Henne is week-to-week. Freshman Ryan Mallett will start against the Fighting Irish and likely will start against PSU if Henne can’t go.
Mallett started the second half against Oregon and went 6-of-17 for 49 yards and threw an interception.
Quarless to return?
Penn State tight end Andrew Quarless likely will play against Buffalo, according to fightonstate.com.
Quarless was suspended indefinitely after an underage drinking citation and missed the first two games, though he did dress for both.
Connor wins award
Lion linebacker Dan Connor was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.
Connor also was selected as the top defensive player in the nation after recording 12 tackles (eight solo), 2 1/2 tackles for losses, one sack and one pass break-up against Notre Dame.
A Penn State linebacker has garnered the Big Ten’s defensive award each of the first two weeks, with Sean Lee getting the honor last week.
