AAHS needs to find new girls coach
The Altoona Area School District girls soccer program is again facing a big change. Lady Lions coach Pat McKinney tendered his resignation to the school board, which has accepted it. The school district now faces hiring its fifth girls coach in the past 10 years. This type of constant change has probably been the biggest obstacle in bringing any continuity or stability to the girls program. In the past several years, the school district did not even conduct interviews with some qualified candidates who had submitted applications for the job. This constant turnover of coaches brings up some very interesting questions in regard to Altoona’s hiring policies and what is best for the program. With a new athletic director Phil Riccio in place, now is the time to right the ship.
