Soap opera continues: Scott booted off team
Fewer than two months after qualifying for the NCAA Wrestling Championships as a freshman, Garrett Scott’s Penn State career is finished.
Scott, 165-pound sophomore starter Dave Rella and 197-pound freshman Jared Platt were all dismissed from the Nittany Lions for, according to a four-paragraph press release from Penn State sports information, “violation of team rules and the standards of the program.”
As far as the specific reasons why they were kicked off the team, Penn State coach Troy Sunderland could not be reached for comment, but he did issue a couple comments in the release.
“We have granted each of these young men a release from the team in order for them to continue their academic and athletic careers at different schools,” Sunderland said. “This was a very tough decision for all of us, but as this program continues to improve, each of our wrestlers must live up to the high standards of the program.
