Walker hit by car, dies
An Altoona man was killed Tuesday after he was struck by a car in Antis Township. Samuel Luke, 61, of 212 Meyers Lane was walking along East Pleasant Valley Boulevard about 8:50 a.m. when he was struck by a car driven by Robert Ferguson, 32, of Houtzdale, state police at Hollidaysburg said. Ferguson, who was traveling southbound when Luke was struck, has not been charged, and police continue to piece together what happened. The area where Luke was hit doesn’t have sidewalks, and a metal guardrail separates the berm of the road from an embankment. Luke was pronounced dead at the scene, Blair County Coroner Patricia Ross said. Luke was walking south on East Pleasant Valley Boulevard when he was struck from behind, Deputy Coroner Gill Barton said. The accident occurred about one-tenth of a mile north of Hawthorne Lane, near the Antis-Logan township line.
