Clark-Devlin QB controversy continues

UNIVERSITY PARK — You can argue about whether anything is accomplished in the Blue-White Game other than introducing young and unknown players to Penn State fans.

One of the things that was supposed to happen was either Daryll Clark or Pat Devlin, or even Joe Paterno favorite Paul Cianciolo were supposed to put a stranglehold on the quarterback spot after the departure of Anthony Morelli.

That didn’t happen on a glorious spring day before a Blue-White Game record crowd of 73,000 at Beaver Stadium. For the record, the Blue won the game, 27-14.

Clark and Devlin, the starters in the game, showed some promise and showed why they were backing up Morelli.

Working against different levels of the defense, they combined for 278 passing yards. Devlin completed 12-of-18 passes for 122 yards and a touchdown. Clark connected on 9-of-16 for 116 yards. Cianciolo completed 5-of-9 passes for 50 yards, but he was picked off twice.
