Fall festival/cruise-in 12th Ward

Fall Festival/Cruise-In Plans Announced:
The 12th Ward Civic Association will be holding their 2nd Annual Fall Festival/Cruise-In on Sunday, October 19, 2008 from noon to 5 p.m. This festival will be held at the 12th Ward Civic Center and grounds, located at 2900-3034 South 10th Avenue (off 31st Street between Pine Avenue and the Mill Run Culverts) in Altoona.
All makes/models are welcome for the cruise-in and there is no registration fee. Trophies and prizes from the Altoona Curve will be awarded to the People’s Choice overall 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners (to be tallied at 4:30 p.m.). Goodie bags will be given to the first 100 participants.
Inside the 12th Ward Civic Center will be a gift/basket raffle, bake sale and food to include pulled pork sandwiches with sides and hot dogs with sauerkraut. The Civic Association would like to thank Imler’s Poultry and Lee Food Service for their generosity.
On the grounds, will be games of chance, crafts, a bounce house, face painting, kids games and activities and much more. Also, see the monster truck on display – climb aboard and have your picture taken from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m.
Featured this year is the 1st Annual 12th Ward Pepsi 500. This is an authentic Matchbox/Hot Wheels race to be held on a handmade track. Registration for this event will be held between 11:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. The first heat will be at 1:00 p.m. – final heat at 3:00 p.m. Commissioner Donna Gority and Altoona City Councilman Bill Schirf will be the celebrity judges. This is an all age race – fastest in Altoona wins! Start digging out your fastest cars. If you can’t bring your classic car, bring your Matchbox/Hot Wheels car! Entrance fee is 2 cars for $5.00. Nice prizes will be awarded for the final 4.
Entertainment will include Diesel Dawg from 12:30 to 1:00 p.m., Chuck-E-Cheese, Dennie Huber, balloon artist from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. & DJ Swirvin’ Irvin all day.
Also on the grounds, will be interactive displays and information by the following: Aid for Animals, Laws for Paws, Altoona Fire Department, AMED, Altoona Regional Health System, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Blair County Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, Boy Scouts Troop 15, Operation Our Town, US Armed Forces Mothers.
The 12th Ward Civic Association would like to thank the numerous businesses and individuals who donated items for our Gift/Basket Raffle and for the goodie bags that will be given to the cruise-in participants.
