Freelance writer John Mehno (pronounced MAY-NO) has been contributing to the Altoona Mirror since 1983. He is a regular at Pittsburgh sporting events. He has been covering the Pirates since 1974, and added the Steelers and Penguins in 1976. He has also covered Pitt football and Duquesne basketball over the years. He is the author of three books: The Chronicle of Baseball (Carlton, 2000), The Best Book of Football Stats and Facts (Carlton, 2003) and The Best Pittsburgh Sports Arguments (Sourcebooks, 2007).
