Still bleeds purple
March 22, 2007 - Neil Rudel
One of the neat parts of Bishop Guilfoyle's latest charge to a PIAA girls' basketball championship has been a return to the radio airwaves by former Marauder voice Rich DeLeo.
DeLeo, who left radio to enter into private business early in 2006, was invited back by WFBG's Charlie Weston, whose station picked up the Guilfoyle games after Altoona was eliminated.
The Weston-DeLeo-Cal Bragonier trio did its second straight game Wednesday night when BG beat Bishop O'Reilly in the Western final, and DeLeo was his typical animated self, enjoying every moment and needing, as he said, "a seat belt."
A long-time umpire and referee, who used to do a talk show featuring "Referee Rich," DeLeo's loyalties are deep and humorous. He almost always sides with the officials -- unless he's calling a Bishop Guilfoyle game.
Meaning, of course, he bleeds purple.
