A Ghost Onstage!

March 28, 2014 - Jim Price
Among the live music entertainment options this weekend will be the first area visit of a touring regional group that has backed some prominent heavy metal frontmen.

Gettysburg-based heavy rock quartet Ghost Of War will take the stage at McGarvey’s (formerly Aldo’s) on Saturday night, headlining a four-band bill that also includes area rockers Lies, Inc., Blood Union and One Adam 12. Formed in 2010, Ghost Of War – singer Ronnie Peterson, guitarist Thane Farace, bassist Gary Daniels and drummer Jim Mathis – has worked up their own distinctive blend of metal, thrash, hardcore, punk, country, bluegrass and straight ahead rock’n’roll. They have become an established touring band, doing shows up and down the east coast. After winning Quiet Riot’s “Battle of the Bands” event at Philadelphia’s Wells Fargo Arena, Ghost Of War played New Jersey’s Summer Slam Festival last year on Wildwood Beach. The group has backed Metal Church singer Ronnie Munroe and Anthrax vocalist Neil Turbin on their recent east coast tours, and they will be Jagermeister’s showcase band at next month’s Monster Energy Welcome to Rockville Festival in Jacksonville, Florida. Saturday’s show at McGarvey’s starts at 9 p.m., $5 cover.

A benefit fundraiser to remember a fallen friend will happen at the Bavarian Aid Society on Saturday night. Ryan Carruthers – brother of The Hope Fallacy’s drummer, Trey Carruthers – recently lost his courageous battle with cancer. The fundraiser, which will feature entertainment by The Hope Fallacy plus food and refreshments, will start at 7 p.m. There will be basket giveaways and a silent auction. Proceeds will help pay Ryan Carruthers’ remaining medical expenses and help his surviving family.

Push yourself away from the computer, get off the couch and support live music this weekend, and do your part to ensure that area musicians can keep doing their thing here in central PA!

And if you plan to celebrate while enjoying live music, please designate a driver or call a cab!
