Live Music Before the Next Snowstorm

February 28, 2014 - Jim Price
With weather forecast models projecting up to a possible 12 to 18 inches on snow falling on the region Sunday and Monday, the area music scene offers some fine entertainment options to enjoy while you’re out stocking up on milk, eggs, butter and toilet paper.

Several bands and solo artists will converge on Pellegrine’s Friday night to help out victims of a recent house fire. The Fire Fundraiser for Lynne McDonough will raise funds to help out McDonough, whose Duncansville house was severely damaged by fire earlier this month. Performing at the benefit will be Eric Delozier, Phil Baskin, Cottonmouth, the Backyard Rockers, Half Tempted, Steve Summerhill and Zombie Butterflies. There will be basket giveaways and more activities. Donation at the door is $5, and the music starts at 6 p.m.

After being grounded for three months, the “Party Plane” is ready to take to the skies again this weekend. Flight 19 returns to action Saturday night at the 4D’s Lounge. The group was sidelined while drummer Paul Caracciolo, Jr. logged some hospital time.

If country is the preferred flavor, several opportunities await you this weekend. Chris Woodward & ShinDiggin’ perform both Friday and Saturday nights. Their Friday performance takes place at McGarvey’s (formerly Aldo’s), while the group returns to Glenn’s Place in Claysburg for the second consecutive Saturday. Solo artist Eric Husick will open and perform with the group.

During their last visit to Aldo’s in December, members of southern Mississippi recording group Rosco Bandana remarked onstage that they were excited to experience northern snow for the first time. With the aforementioned 12 to 18 inches of snowfall forecast for Sunday night into Monday, Rosco Bandana’s excitement level should blast through the roof when they return to that venue – now McGarvey’s – on Sunday night, with local folk-punk favorites Nobody’s Heroes opening. Performing a colorful blend of Americana, rock, blues, country and jam-flavored music, Rosco Bandana has delivered amazing performances during their first two visits here, so if the snow forecast doesn’t scare you and/or you have four-wheel drive, this show is highly recommended.

Support live music this weekend and upcoming week! And if you plan to celebrate heavily while doing so, please designate a driver or call a cab!
