Best show on TV
November 28, 2013 - John Mehno
I'm not referring to "Cash Cab" this time, although it's my favorite.
I'm talking about the National Football League, particularly the many hours I spent watching it last Sunday.
I needed it, too, because I overdid the JFK retrospectives on Friday. They wore me out.
I know that people lust for Steelers tickets, but for me the best Sundays are when they're on the road and football exists as TV programming. Picked up the Steelers at Cleveland at 1. Then CBS took us to the end of San Diego at Kansas City. Switched to Fox just after 4, and they were in Green Bay for the finish of Vikings at Packers. That ended in a tie (shades of 1970s NHL), and we went to the Meadowlands for Dallas at the New York Giants.
Once that finished with a field goal as time expired, it was over to NBC for the epic Denver-New England game. Experience has taught me to stay with apparent blowouts as long as the trailing team is good. New England is. It wound up ending in overtime, after midnight.
That was almost 12 hours of TV time, across three networks, but it was all good. Nobody makes great TV like the NFL does.
