Lil' Rev Comes to Town!

November 8, 2013 - Jim Price
If you are a fan or student of the ukulele, a well-known ukulele performer and instructor is visiting the Altoona area in the coming week.

Lil’ Rev – Marc Revenson – is a noted musician and instructor based out of Milwaukee. Citing such influences as Pete Seeger, Woody Guthrie and Leadbelly; he is known for performing Yiddish, folk and blues music; and has also authored two ukulele instruction books in the Hal Leonard series. He specializes in ukulele and harmonica, but also plays banjo, guitar and mandolin. Lil’ Rev will visit Altoona on Thursday night, Nov. 14, to perform at Temple Beth Israel starting at 7:30 p.m. The focus of his concert will be the history of New York City’s Tin Pan Alley, and he will perform music from that era. Tickets are $10 per person, and may be purchased in advance or at the door.

In other area live music happenings, Aldo’s will host a special benefit for an area youngster in need of a kidney transplant. The Benefit for Caitlin will happen on Saturday night starting at 10 p.m., to raise monies for 7-year-old Caitlin, a Bellwood girl in need of a kidney. The concert will feature performances from local punk favorites Xs for Eyes, the Railroad City Murder Machines, Michigan-based hardcore group Ante Up, Pittsburgh’s SPRRWS and indie acoustic punk performer Kevo Can’t Dance. Donation at the door is $5.

Area favorites and rising bands and performers populate the stages, so support live music this weekend and upcoming week! And if you plan to celebrate heavily while doing so, please designate a driver or call a cab!
