More Fests and Foliage!

October 11, 2013 - Jim Price
More annual area fall festival events provide some of this weekend’s live music highlights.

Bedford’s Fall Foliage Festival continues with its final two days, each filled with some marquee performers. Saturday’s entertainment highlights include Cleveland-based Journey tribute band Arrival on the downtown Gazebo stage, and Pittsburgh blues group Mahajibee Blues on the river stage. Sunday’s music includes Pittsburgh jazz performers Cadillac Jazz with Donna Bailey on the Gazebo stage, and 60s hitmakers The Vogues on the river stage. Admission to Fall Foliage Festival is free; shuttle buses provide transportation to and from the festival from the Bedford County Fairgrounds and Old Bedford Village for a parking fee.

Main Street in Alexandria, Huntingdon County, comes to life on Saturday with the annual Hartslog Day, which will feature plentiful arts and crafts vendor, food stands, and live music. Performing at this year’s Hartslog Day are scholastic musicians from Juniata Valley High School, annual favorite Anita Roseborough and friends, State College folk-rock favorites Biscuit Jam, Tyrone-based blues duo Raining Blue, and Christian-themed performers Strings of Faith and Scent of Water. Admission to Hartslog Day is free.

For a slightly longer roadtrip, Ligonier hosts its annual fall festival, Fort Ligonier Days, from Friday through Monday. Commemorating the Battle of Fort Ligonier, which happened on October 12, 1758; Ligonier Days features multiple arts and craft vendors, a food court centered around the downtown diamond, and live music.

And for an even longer roadtrip if you are a fancier of maximum fall foliage this weekend, Berkeley Springs, West Virginia (about a 2-hour drive from Altoona) features its annual Apple Butter Festival on Saturday and Sunday, with arts and crafts, food and live music both days.

Whether you prefer outdoor or indoor, support live music this weekend and upcoming week! And if you plan to celebrate heavily while doing so, please designate a driver or call a cab!
