Roar, Italian Food and Helping an Area Musician This Weekend

September 21, 2013 - Jim Price
This weekend’s live music slate includes a motorcycle rally, an Italian festival tradition and a special benefit to help out an area musician.

The annual Roar in the Mountains motorcycle rally takes place from Friday through Sunday, centered at Legion Park in Hollidaysburg. Besides motorcycle vendors, motorcycle games sponsored by Just Us Girls Sisterhood, and food and beverage vendors, live music will take place both on the main stage and at the A.B.A.T.E. Campground. Friday’s main stage entertainment includes This Albatross and Left For Dead. Saturday’s slate will include The Backyard Rockers, The Lawn Darts and The Good Seeds on the main stage, plus Emberstitch on Saturday night at the A.B.A.T.E. campground area, and Sunday’s music will conclude with Nobody’s Heroes on the main stage. Admission to Roar in the Mountains is $5 per person.

For fans of arts and crafts, the New Germany Festival of Arts & Crafts takes place on Saturday and Sunday at New Germany Grove near Summerhill. The festival will feature a large number of arts and crafts vendors, food and refreshments, and live musical entertainment Sunday afternoon with Johnstown-based acoustic duo Two Far Gone. Admission to the festival is free.

Italian heritage, food and tradition returns to Delgrosso’s Amusement Park on Sunday afternoon with the annual Italian Food and Heritage Festival. The festival runs from noon to 5 p.m., with a wide variety of Italian food items prepared by the Delgrosso’s kitchen and several organizations. Live Italian music will be featured, courtesy of Pittsburgh favorites Jimmy Sapienza’s Five Guys Named Moe, and strolling musicians Faiella’s Father and Son with mandolin and acoustic guitar. Admission to the festival is free.

The area music community comes together on Sunday afternoon to help out a musician in need. Half Tempted lead singer and guitarist Ron Dalansky suffered serious injuries earlier this summer from a dirtbike accident. Medical expenses pile up as Dalansky slowly recovers from those injuries. A special benefit concert for Dalansky will happen at Pellegrine’s starting at 2 p.m. Performers taking part include The Backyard Rockers, Punk Fiction Project, Black Sun, One Brick Shy, Felix & the Hurricanes, Locked and Loaded, Zombie Butterflies and Flight 19. There may be a surprise or two along the way as well. Donation at the door is $5 per person.

And a national recording act arrives on the stage at Aldo's on Sunday night. Rosco Bandana, whose music is featured on CMT, brings their indie folk rock flavors to Aldo's starting at 9 p.m., with special local guest Ryan Matthew opening. Seven members strong and based in Gulfport, Mississippi, Rosco Bandana is currently touring the East Coast in support of their album "Time to Begin."

There are lots of performers and shows to check out, so support live music this weekend and upcoming week! And if you plan to celebrate heavily while doing so, please designate a driver or call a cab!
