A Beginning of World Shindig!

December 14, 2012 - Jim Price
With all the talk these days of the impending end of the world scenarios, at least one show on the area music scene this weekend chooses to look at the other side of the coin.

Former Rusted Root drummer Jim Donovan and his rhythm-based group The Sun King Warriors will anchor an evening of music, drumming and hopeful vibes this Friday night as they present the “Beginning of World Shindig” and Rhythm Renewal Reunion. The event will begin at 7 p.m. at the Boilerhouse on the campus of St. Francis University in Loretto. The Sun King Warriors perform a unique brand of worldbeat-based music spanning funk, jam and rock frontiers; including original song compositions and select folk songs from West African, Caribbean and South American origins. Dancing and drumming accompaniment are welcomed from audience members. The show also serves as a reunion of participants in Donovan’s annual Summer Rhythm Renewal event. Admission to the performance is $10, and food and refreshments will be available.
