| | NYC Marathoners make lemonadeNovember 5, 2012 - Erik BrownIn case you missed this news item, more than 1,000 runners gathered on Staten Island early Sunday morning to deliver donated supplies to the victims of Hurricane Sandy. The effort was organized via Facebook by Dr. Jordan Metzl, a sports-medicine physician at New York City's Hospital for Special surgery. Instead of the 26.2 mile marathon they had trained months for, these runners literally ran the supplies, in garbage bags and backpacks, to the most severely damaged neighborhoods on the island. Donated items ranged from blankets to gift cards. Dr. Metzl himself carried a backpack filled with batteries. Links to news accounts of this effort can be found on the right side of this webpage. Kudos to these humanitarian harriers and thanks for reading Against The Wind!
