Storm's Over - Let's Rock!
November 2, 2012 - Jim Price
Now that the local area has made it through the spectacle of “Frankenstorm,” the weekend has arrived, and live music is on area stages to be enjoyed!
Among the noteworthy live music happenings this weekend are the returns of two national hard-rocking names to area stages. Columbus, Ohio-based national recording group XFactor1 returns to Aldo’s this Friday night, and West Virginia-based recording group Bobaflex returns to Yesterday’s Party in Ebensburg on Saturday night.
Placid Promotions is presenting a five-band benefit concert for Autism Awareness on Saturday evening at Pellegrine’s. The music starts at 6:30 p.m., and features performances from Bedford-based rock foursome Borrowed Time, Higher Ground, State College-based performers Brandi Hari Overdrive, Cambria County’s Moondog and hot damn. Donation at the door will be $5.
If you are up for a roadtrip on Saturday night, former Marauders frontman/guitarist Ben Dumm and his current band, the Deviants, will open for The Red Elvises at Pittsburgh’s Hard Rock Café on Station Square. Formed in 1995, The Red Elvises feature several Russian-born musicians who relocated to America to perform “rokenrol.” Decked out in red, the group is known for their high-energy onstage parties and their brand of “Siberian surf rock.”
And the sun should be shining on Sunday for what will likely be the final outdoor fall festival of the season near State College. Located within view of Penn State’s Beaver Stadium, Millbrook Marsh Nature Center will again present their tenth annual “Historic Harvest Festival” from 2 to 5 p.m. The festival will feature food, crafts, demonstrations, children’s events, animals, trail walks, and live Americana music. The specific entertainment schedule wasn’t available as of press time. Admission to this festival is free.
