Musicians and Community Help a Friend in Need!
October 29, 2012 - Jim Price
Live local music provided the catalyst for the Altoona area community to come together on Sunday afternoon to help out somebody in need.
The Breathe Deep Benefit took place at Altoona's UVA Club, raising funds to help out 35-year-old Jeremy Weyandt, born with cystic fibrosis and undergoing double lung transplant surgery last month. This turned into a very special afternoon, as hundreds of friends, well wishers and music fans attended and showed their support, raising in excess of $15,000.
The afternoon saw inspired performances from area bands The Backyard Rockers, The Boomers (featuring Jeremy's mother, Kathy Niedenthal, on vocals), the Randy Jackson Jazz Band, The House Band, R2B2, Big Mack 'N the Fries, Without Zerb and Flight 19.
Big thanks go out to all of the bands and musicians who took part, Shawn Hocherl and Baltimore's Showtime Sound for the production, stage assistants Pat McGinnis and Scott Zillinger, the UVA Club and staff, all the area businesses and individuals who donated gift baskets and prizes for door prizes, the Chinese and silent auctions, and all of the many people who attended and showed their support.
For anyone not in attendance who would like to make a donation, visit the link on this page to make an online donation via Jeremy's Children's Organ Transplant Association (COTA) web page.
The Breathe Deep Benefit provided another example of music bringing the community together for a great cause.
