Altoona First, Blair County Community Action Agency's Last This Week

September 8, 2012 - Jim Price
The summer season is drawing to a close, but live music activities still abound for this weekend and upcoming week.

The annual Altoona First Festival takes place on Saturday and Sunday at Lakemont Park. The festival will again showcase arts and crafts exhibits and vendors, plus feature a food court and live music. The Deacons of Dixieland and R2B2 provide the musical highlights on Saturday, while Johnstown-based vintage rock’n’roll performers The Runaways entertain on Sunday. Admission to the Altoona First Festival is $5 per person. The Altoona First Festival will close out Lakemont Park's 2012 season.

The 96th annual Cookport Fair kicks off Monday and runs through Saturday. Located near the Indiana-Cambria County line northwest of Northern Cambria, the fair will feature live musical entertainment nearly every night. White Shadow and Jerry Carnicella’s Elvis Lives tribute to Elvis Presley appear on Tuesday night; country performers Under The Influence play the fair on Wednesday, Dan & Galla and Johnstown-based Johnny Cash tribute group Ole 97 perform Thursday, and The Boomers bring their vintage and classic rock’n’roll sounds to the fair’s main stage on Friday. Admission to the Cookport Fair is $4 per person, and parking is free.

The Blair County Community Action Agency caps its summer concert season on Tuesday evening with the annual Patriot Day Concert at downtown Altoona’s Heritage Plaza. The concert begins at 6 p.m. and will feature music from Big Mac & the Fries, Felix & the Hurricanes and the Randy Jackson Quartet. Admission is free, and food and refreshments will be available.
