Record turnout for KBMR
March 30, 2012 - Erik Brown
A record number of runners and walkers turned out for the Hollidaysburg Area YMCA’s Ken Brumbaugh Memorial Race last Sunday. Kudos to the YMCA race staff and volunteers for the efficient way they worked through the overflow parking situation and kept things right on schedule for the opening event of their 2012 Community Wellness Challenge Series of local road races.
A.J. Kelly added to his string of KBMR victories, winning the men’s 5 mile race in a time of 27:26. Ageless Chris Sheftic (actually 50 years young), finished second in 29:55, and Jim Farnan finished third in 31:33.
The women’s 5 mile race was won by Regina Ruggery in a time of 33:47. Deanna Brown finished second in 34:42, and Jennifer Bonin was third in 36:20. The first-second order of finish for Ruggery, age 38 and Brown, age 49 was a repeat of last year’s result except that both women improved their time this year.
Tim Hertel won the men’s 2 mile race 12:53. Samuel Hess was second in 13:28, and Chris Brown was third in 14:01.
The women’s 2 mile race was won by Alyssa Clark in 15:14, with Bobbi McAllister, 15:37, and Christy Huber, 16:08 collecting second and third place honors.
Rich Santella, 16:45 and Sam Freet, 16:49 were the winners of the men’s and women’s 2mile walk, respectively.
The next race in the CWCS will be the Bud Shuster Run for Your Life at 8:00 AM on Saturday, April 21st. It will start and finish at the Hollidaysburg Area YMCA, and will include a 5K run, a 2 mile run, and a 2 mile walk – literally something for nearly all ages and fitness levels.
