Let the Contest Begin
March 29, 2012 - John Mehno
APRIL 1 UPDATE: The contest is progressing nicely, with a good variety of numbers being guessed. Since you didn't win the giant lottery and your NCAA brackets blew up, take a shot at this. Imagine the pride of ownership when a box of dubious leftover promotional stuff shows up on your doorstep in October. Stop procrastinating -- Enter Today.
As near as I can figure, this is the fifth annual "Guess How Many Games The Pirates Will Win This Season."
THE VOTING OPENS TODAY (THURSDAY, MARCH 29) AT 3 P.M. AND WILL CLOSE AT 3 P.M. ON MONDAY, APRIL 9.
It's basically self-explanatory. You guess how many games the Pittsburgh Pirates will win in the 162-game schedule that starts on Thursday, April 5 at PNC Park. When the season ends on Oct. 4, the winner will immediately be announced on this blog. The winner receives a box of leftover promotional stuff, which will be sent as economically as possible via the US Postal Service.
Here are the Pirates' win totals over the past six seasons:
IMPORTANT: There is a tie-breaker this year. This is being done so that a win number isn't closed as soon as someone picks it. The tie-breaker is your prediction of the total number of home runs the Pirates will hit in the 2012 season.
Here are the home run totals from the last six seasons:
You submit two numbers: The number of games you think the Pirates will win this season, and the number of home runs you think they will hit this season.
THE DETAILS: Send all entries to: firstname.lastname@example.org. One entry per person, please. If there is still a tie after the tie-breaker is considered, the winner will be the earliest correct entry.
It costs nothing to enter, so give it a shot. Thanks, and good luck.
