Happy New Year
January 2, 2012 - John Mehno
I've resolved to take more naps in the new year, and I'm pleased to report that I'm doing well with that so far.
I've never been much of a New Year's person. I think I've explained it before, but it goes back to when I was a kid and Jan. 1 meant that school was starting again on Jan. 2. And I never had the Dec. 22 homework assignment completed, so that only added to the stress.
New Year's went irretrievably south for me when 1972 turned into 1973, and I woke to the news that Roberto Clemente had died in a plane crash. You don't forget something like that.
So here we with 12 fresh sheets of the calendar. The Steelers are in the playoffs, but I'm skeptical of their chances beyond this Sunday's game in Denver. The Penguins are Stanley Cup contenders, especially if Sidney Crosby can play again. As the snow flies outside the window, baseball seems like it's a long way off.
Here's wishing you all the best in the new year. Enjoy the occasional nap.
