There's still time
December 18, 2011 - John Mehno
'Tis the season for self-promotion, so here goes:
If you're looking for a great gift for a sports fan, may I recommend "Pittsburgh's Best Sports Arguments" by yours truly?
It's 100 debates, both serious and lighthearted, from the always-interesting Pittsburgh sports scene. There's plenty of content on the Steelers, Pirates and Penguins, as well as discussion of long-gone teams like the Maulers, Triangles and Condors.
It's breezy reading -- just choose a chapter and start there. It's a fun book that has literally sold hundreds of copies since it was published a few years ago.
You can check your favorite bookstore. If they don't have it (sold out, no doubt), your favorite online bookseller can have it in your hot hands in time for Christmas. For you tech-savvy readers, there's a Kindle edition that amazon will deliver electronically to your gift recipient.
Sample chapters: Who’s better, Franco Harris or Jerome Bettis? ... Was Three Rivers Stadium really that bad? ... What were the best Pittsburgh teams that didn’t win championships? ... Who really saved hockey in Pittsburgh? ... Who’s better, Roberto Clemente or Barry Bonds? ... Why doesn’t Pittsburgh have an NBA team?
If I didn't think you'd like, I wouldn't recommend it. Thanks, and happy holidays.
