Seeking a place in history

October 7, 2011 - Margaret Moses
Keith Junior High has been a landmark in the city for decades. Now that it's been converted into apartments, I'm really curious what it looks like inside. The developers maintained the exterior to resemble its once educational purpose, so when I drive past my curiosity is piqued. Now the building may gain recognition on the National Register of Historic Places, if the 35-page application is ratified. See Bill Kibler's story on A1.

Heading out this weekend to enjoy the weather? You might want to consider going to Cresson for the town's Heritage Days, which kick off with some events tonight but go into full swing Saturday and Sunday with the vendor booths. One of the vendors, 11-year-old Jocelyn Sheehan, is selling items, with all proceeds going to the Arthritis Foundation. Jocelyn was diagnosed with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis a few months ago, and now wants to give back. Pretty cool. See the story on A1.

I wonder who lined up to dunk some of the celebrities at the Grocers Fight Cancer Day on Thursday at Giant Eagle? Check out Patrick Waksmunski's photo on A2 of Sheriff Mitch Cooper, who was dunked.

The leaves on my tree are falling, but there sure are a lot of leaves that haven't even turned yet. If you've started the annual fall raking, check out the leaf collection schedule on A5. It includes pickup information for Altoona, Hollidaysburg, Logan Township, Tyrone, Allegheny Township, Blair Township, Duncansville and Roaring Spring residents.

That's a bizarre missing child case in Missouri, isn't it? The parents of the missing 10-month-old girl have stopped cooperating with the police. Kind of makes you think the worst, doesn't it? See the brief on C1.

If you're collecting the Penn State posters in Gameday, this week's is Justin Brown.
