Everyone knows that many of the greatest soul and R&B singers of our time crossed over into gospel, but few realize that gospel legends The Soul Stirrers were influential in the emergence of soul music and the creation of the Motown sound in the mid-20th century. Those two dynamics struck a perfect balance when Cooke teamed up with the quintet for an amazing version of the traditional hymn.
