Son Records: A weeklong look at portrayals and images of Jesus Christ in popular music
“Redemption,” Johnny Cash
No artist in popular music history (for the purposes of this exercise, we’re excluding gospel and contemporary Christian artists) has sung as frequently and openly about Christ as Johnny Cash. But it wasn’t until his third (and greatest) round of fame, which commenced with 1994’s “American Recordings,” that his message truly reached a national audience with “Redemption,” a song that gets to the heart of what Good Friday means to Christians.
