| | It's time for "Ghosts"April 7, 2011 - Margaret MosesI'm excited about tonight's premiere of "Ghosts: The Movie." I'm lucky enough to have a ticket to attend with some of my friends here at the Mirror. Make sure to read Ken Womack's review of the movie on D1 today. The Portage police issue boiled over last night, with the township rejecting the plan to have Portage Borough bring its police protection into the borough. Read David Hurst's story on A1. Although President Obama chose to visit Gamesa's turbine plant in the eastern part of the state yesterday, it still shed a positive light on the company's other plant in Cambria Township. With 300 workers, the plant is busy manufacturing blades for many wind projects. See David Hurst's story and the wire story on the Fairless Hills visit on A1. Gary Baranec captured Garrett Baumgartner's concentration perfectly in the photo on A2 today. What kind of sick relatives hold down a teen so she can be beaten? That's exactly what police say happened to a 14-year-old in Scranton. They say the child's mother and grandmother held her down for a 45-minute attack by a man who used a belt on her. The brief is on A7. Disgusting. Isn't it nice to look at the baseball standings on B3 and see the Pirates not at the bottom of the list? Are you itching to get outside and start on spring and summer yard work? Today's sunshine is getting me more fired up for it. It was hard to even think about it in the recent cold weather. If you need some supplies, see the Lowe's ad on B8 with some of their deals this week. I don't know about you, but I was startled by the story on C1 about a study that found teens don't think it's a big problem to consume five or more alcoholic drinks a day. If you're a fan of the Steelers, or more specifically former player Jerome Bettis, you probably already have your tickets for next Wednesday when he's coming to speak at the Blair County Convention Center for the Penn State Altoona Speaker Series. The ad on C3 has details on how to get a ticket in case you haven't bought yours yet. With the nicer weather comes the resumption of yard sales. There are several listed in today's Classifieds on C7 for this weekend. It won't be long before the list spans several pages. In addition to the review of "Ghosts" on D1, there's also a story by Cory Dobrowolsky about the Altoona Symphony Orchestra's Saturday concert at the Cathedral. One pretty cool thing about the concert is Nicholas Will, the organist at the Cathedral, will be performing with the orchestra. He'll be playing on the Cathedral's 1931 Steinway organ. If you missed last week's Altoona Mirror Classic at St. Francis, you can see some of what you missed on D3's Picturesque from the event. That photo capturing Jeremy Posey preparing to dunk is amazing. Article CommentsNo comments posted for this article. Post a Comment | EZToUse.com |
