The week in geek

February 11, 2011 - Nick Recchia & Tom Worthington
Here are a few bits of news from the week:

First trailer for X-Men: First Class

The first trailer for X-Men: First Class has been released. Following, what I believed to be, a horrible first look at the characters in costume, I didn't expect a whole lot from the trailer. Boy was I wrong. I am really interested in seeing this movie now. I know what some major comic book fans will say, "It doesn't follow the comics." But to deviate from the comics a bit and still have a great movie is better to me. Now if they screw something up about as bad as Deadpool in the Wolverine movie, then you have the right to complain. See the links to the right to watch the trailer.

Say goodbye to Guitar Hero

Guitar Hero is no more. Activision announced that the popular music game has gone the way of the dodo. It seems that rhythm games as a whole are starting to slow down. In sales anyway. I think what happened to Guitar Hero is a direct result of Activision flooding the market with game after game. Unlike Rock Band, it seems we had a new Guitar Hero game every other month. Personally, I have always enjoyed Rock Band above Guitar Hero. And I hope that Rock Band will maybe get some bands that they couldn't before, now that Guitar Hero is gone. See Harmonix response to the fall of Guitar Hero by following the link to the right.

Speaking of Rock Band. For all you love birds out there who game together, here is the V-Day Pack available today for Rock Band Xbox 360 / Wii / PS3 Available: February 11, 2011

Leaked: Possible new Halo Reach map pack

Screen shots of what is possibly a new map pack for Reach have been leaked online. If these are real, the new maps look awesome. Well, what can be seen of them anyways. I have been in Black Ops mode for the last few months and I've been looking for something to get me back to Reach. It would have been inevitable, but an awesome new map pack would help too. Follow the link to the right to view all of the screen shots.
