1. Ben Roethlisberger is accused of sexual assault in Milledgeville, GA. Although he is not charged with a crime, the NFL suspends Roethlisberger for the first four games.

2. Defending their Super Bowl title, the Steelers fade in the stretch and fail to make the playoffs.

3. After two consecutive trips to the Stanley Cup final, the defending Cup champion Penguins exit the playoffs in the second round.

4. Pitt has a disappointing football season and fires coach Dave Wannstedt.

5. The Pirates lose 105 games and fire manager John Russell.

6. The Consol Energy Center opens.

7. Sidney Crosby has a (still active) 25-game scoring streak.

8. The Steelers rack up fines as the NFL cracks down on violent hits.
