Taking care of business

December 12, 2010 - Buck Frank
The Steelers are coming off such an emotional and physical victory over the Baltimore Ravens and have to play the 9-3 New York Jets next week. That would make today's game against the 2-10 Bengals the ultimate trap game. The Steelers are in good position for a playoff bye because of their win over the Ravens, and they need to take care of the Bengals or that big win will have been wasted. The Bengals have been falling behind teams -- including the Steelers the first time they met this year -- but always seem to rally in the second half but come up short. They've lost nine straight games. If the Steelers get on top early today, they need to deliver the knockout punch. That's what playoff-bound teams do at this time of year. --The Bengals will be without starting cornerback Johnathan Joseph. Cornerback play -- by Joseph and Leon Hall -- was a big reason the Bengals enjoyed a turnaround season in 2009. Jonathan Wade will step in for Joseph and should be a target for the Steelers' passing attack. --The newly sodded surface at Heinz Field looks to be in good condition -- at noon after the tarp was removed. We'll see how it holds up by 3:30 today. It is raining now, but heavier rains are expected throughout the game. --The Steelers can clinch a playoff spot with a win, a Jaguars loss, a Patriots win and a Dolphins loss.
