PSU DE Sean Stanley busted for marijuana

October 19, 2010 - Cory Giger
Now we know why defensive end Sean Stanley has been in Joe Paterno's doghouse and hasn't played the past two games. The Associated Press story: STATE COLLEGE -- Penn State defensive end Sean Stanley has been charged with misdemeanor marijuana possession. University police say the 19-year-old sophomore was charged Monday with having a small amount of marijuana stemming from a police call to his on-campus apartment in late September. Stanley had eight tackles over the first four games before being held out the last two, starting with the October 2 loss at Iowa. Coach Joe Paterno had declined comment, citing school policy. A team spokesman said Tuesday that Stanley returned to practice last week, though he was not listed on the depth chart for the Nittany Lions' next game Saturday at Minnesota. A preliminary hearing for Stanley was scheduled for Nov. 17.

Additionally ... Published reports have pointed out cornerback Derrick Thomas is Stanley's roommate, and court documents show his name was on the search warrant, but he has not been charged with anything. Thomas hasn't played the past two games, either.
