Music Monday mp3some: 80's pop...
June 21, 2010 - Ray Eckenrode
There was a lot of great pop music in the 80's. Unfortunately, most Americans weren't listening to it:
“1,000 Umbrellas,” XTC (1986)
Andy Partridge and Co. were the closest thing musically to the Beatles that we’ll ever see. There, we said it.
“Hard to Laugh,” The Pursuit of Happiness (1988)
Barenaked Ladies is the Canadian band that emerged from this era into international stardom, but the power pop of Moe Berg and Co. is every bit as smart, funny and vital.
“Pure,” The Lightning Seeds (1989)
Back in 1989, Ian Broudie was The Lightning Seeds and vice versa and this gem from the “band’s” first album is as pure as a love song gets.
