Remembering

June 17, 2010 - Mark Leberfinger

Clip-clop, clip-clop.

The sound of the riderless horse's hooves hitting Allegheny Street in Hollidaysburg was haunting.

The horse, guided by a Shriner from the Jaffa Shrine Center, led the procession of law enforcement officers Thursday night at the start of the 19th annual Blair County Law Enforcement Officers' Memorial Service.

It was a very touching service. Seven Pennsylvania officers who died in the line of duty in 2009 when remembered along with the officers whose names are engraved on the law enforcement memorial in front of the Blair County Courthouse.

Thank you to all law enforcement officers who serve our communities.

Just as Pastor Rich Morris of Hicks United Methodist Church, Duncansville, said in his opening prayer, sin and evil are in our communities. We run from it but police officers run in to face it.

May our officers stay safe and serve faithfully.
