Many Reasons This Season

May 29, 2010 - Altoona Curve

There are so many reasons to come out to Blair County Ballpark in 2010.  Here are just 10 of them:

10)  New Kids' Attractions - The Galliker's Fun Zone has a new inflatable hitting game, there's a new stuff-your-own-animal Animaland experience, and new games with new prizes in the Weis Playland.

9)  Mascot Skits - Our new Director of Mascot and Brand Development Bill Bettwy has done a tremendous job working with our dedicated people who don the three mascot suits - Steamer, Diesel Dawg, and Al Tuna.  The result is funnier skits, increased fan interaction, and more entertainment.

8)  In-Game Events - The all-new Tel-Power Joust and the Great American Bagel Race presented by Panera Bread have been added to fan favorites like the Sheetz Build-a-Burger and the Weis Markets Beach Balls of Chaos to make the two minutes between innings even better.

7)  More Value - The Curve not only held the line on ticket prices (that were reduced before the '09 season), but have also added two more money-saving opportunites for fans with Mirror Mondays and Weis Buy Thursdays.  Fans can use either a coupon or Preferred Shoppers' Card to shave a couple dollars off of their already low ticket prices.  These programs join the already popular Two-for-Tuesday and Thirsty Thursday promotions that offer discounts on tickets, hot dogs, popcorn, and beverages.

6) New Windows - The new windows that were installed into the archways along the upper concourse have made for a more comfortable and aesthetically pleasing ballpark.  They have also kept rain and wind from blowing into the ballpark which had caused the potential for structural weathering.

5) More Promotions - 20 Fireworks shows, 12 giveaway nights, and several entertaining national acts - including April's first-ever appearance by the San Diego Chicken.

4) Curve, Pa. - The new theme we've pursued in describing our little piece of real estate (affectionately dubbed "Curve, Pa.") as a place where you can get away from the everyday, has steadily grown.  Daily comics, a regular blog, a new jingle, and all of our internal and external marketing have focused on that theme to help convey the positive experience you will have at Blair County Ballpark.

3) Our Terrific Staff - While our front office staff works hard during the off-season to set the table for a successful season, they are complemented by so many loyal, trusted, and long-time game day employees who genuinely care about the fans and want them to have a great time each time they visit.

2)  A Really Good Team - Manager Matt Walbeck, his staff, and a dedicated group of championship-caliber players are on top of the Eastern League with a 31-17 mark through the first nine weeks of the season.  All facets of the game have been clicking for the Curve: pitching, defense, and timely hitting.

1)  Community Center - Some 12 years after it opened Blair County Ballpark not only remains one of the best facilities in all of sports, but it acts as a terrific, regional gathering place for families, friends, and neighbors to get together and enjoy all there is to experience here.  A lot of memories have already been created here and many more will be as new generations become Curve fans.
