It's Toys for Tots Concert Season!

November 13, 2009 - Jim Price
In a positive trend that seems to be growing with each holiday season, an onslaught of benefit concerts to help out the U.S. Marine Corps’ annual Toys for Tots campaign begins this weekend, and will continue into the early weeks of December; as area musicians and venues chip in to help out needy area families.  At least four such concerts are happening in the region in the next few weeks, and more are likely to be announced.

Two of the concerts are scheduled for this Saturday, November 14.  The first takes place at the Green Gables Hotel, 900 South Main Street in Lewistown.  This concert begins at 2 p.m. and runs until midnight, and all ages are welcome until 8 p.m.  The show will feature performances from the bands Fifth Shot, Alternative Crush, Johnny Unit, Wiskerbisket, Represent The Lie, A Beautiful Mess and Bent.  There will also be door prize drawings.  The donation at the door will be either $5 or a new unopened toy of equal or greater value.

For fans of heavy metal, a Toys for Tots concert with a metal theme happens Saturday night at The Alley Sports Bar in Central City.  The “Metal Gives Back” benefit starts at 10 p.m., and will feature performances from the bands The Defining Hour, The Embalmed and Rapid Fire.  There will also be door prizes at this concert.  Donation at the door is a $5 cash donation or a new unwrapped toy.  This show is for fans 21 and older.

On Saturday night, November 21, 30 Something Restaurant & Lounge and Pennsylvania Musician Magazine will sponsor their annual Toys for Tots benefit concert, starting at 8:30 p.m. at 30 Something, 1524 E. Walton Avenue in Greenwood.  The bands Rapid Fire, Nitekast, Represent The Lie, Shallow 9 and Mysterytrain will provide the music.  There will be T-shirt giveaways during this show.  Donation again is a $5 cash donation or a new unopened toy of equal or greater value.  This show is for fans 21 and older.

And on Friday night, December 11, the Castle Pub in Ebensburg will host a Toys for Tots benefit concert headlined by Solegion.  Other bands are still being lined up for this show.  Donation at the door will again be cash admission or a new unwrapped toy of equal or greater value.  This will be an over-21 show.

The monies and toys collected at all of these shows will be used by the U.S. Marine Corps’ Toys for Tots program to help needy area children and families during the upcoming holiday season.

So if you want to get into the holiday spirit early, help needy area children and enjoy live local music at the same time, make your plans to take in one or more of these concerts.
