Hoping my (NBA) fantasy comes true
October 27, 2009 - Neil Rudel
Sorry I've been away from the blog for a couple of weeks. Will try to do better.
The NBA season starts tonight.
Those who follow this blog know I've been involved in the Blair County NBA Fantasy League for now 17 years.
We have 14-15 general managers, and draft night is always one of the best nights of the year in terms of friendship, food and fun.
Such as the time one of our esteemed friends but not-so-esteemed GMs rose and said "I'm taking Bison Dele."
Bison is the former Brian Williams, who played collegiately at Arizona. At the moment he was chosen, Bison was lost at sea and later found dead. His legacy, though, lives on in the BCNBAFL.
We've seen some GMs come and go, others bring their kids for assistance and some evolve into pairs to share the experience. Internal rivalries develop (Larry McAleer vs. me/Larry McAleer vs. everyone) and it's a fun way to follow the NBA.
I've done worse as the years have gone on, in part because of lack of preparation, time and commitment.
This year I swooped up Antawn Jamison in the second round, only to learn he's out four weeks. More grim news arrived this morning as my fourth-round pick, rookie Blake Griffin, broke his kneecap and is out two months.
My team is now built around Jazz point guard Deron Williams, Knicks forward David Lee and Cavs point guard Mo Williams.
If I do well, I'll let ya know how it goes. If not, I'll check in about it next year.
