It's post time: Hold Me Back!
May 1, 2009 - Neil Rudel
OK, the tease in the Mirror today was to click here in order to find my pick.
Actually, I fibbed a bit: It's my dad's pick.
Followers of this column know it's an annual Rudel tradition to select the Kentucky Derby winner and followers of this column also know I would never do that on my own before seeking the advice of the old man.
And considering he nailed 2003 winner Funny Cide, a 15-1 shot, Dave Rudel's got a track record.
Granted, the pressure has since gotten to him, and he's not been nearly as effective, but I'm loyal to the big fella and am going back to the well.
Passing, as usual, on the heavy favorites, he's picking Hold Me Back, a 15-1 shot, and I've gotta admit: Dad was poised and quickly ready to deliver. He likes the jockey (Kent Desormeaux) and believes a 20-horse field can neutralize the 3-1 and 4-1 shots like I Want Revenge and Dunkirk.
"It's anybody's race," he said, "and a good time for a 15-1 shot."
Enjoy the best two minutes in sports and watch for Hold Me Back.
