Lions face opportunity in Swampland

March 23, 2009 - Neil Rudel

Penn State plays in the third round of the NIT Tuesday night at Florida.

Had Miami beaten the Gators on Friday night, the NITtany Lions would have gotten a third straight home game because of the seeding.

I'm kind of glad Penn State, win or lose, is going on the road. I think the Lions have more to gain by playing on the road. Playing on home courts, though it realistically has no choice, is what taints the NIT.

The Lions are playing well through two NIT games, though they'll take a step up in competition now. Either way, the experience should help next year's team as the nucleus of underclassmen have performed well in some valuable playing time and will make the losses of Jamelle Cornley and Stanley Pringle perhaps not as significant as some of us thought.
