Super Bowl -- gameday

February 1, 2009 - Buck Frank

Less than two hours until kickoff.

Just arrived at Raymond James Stadium around 4:30 p.m. and made it through all the security checks. My seat in the press box is in the corner of the end zone, but I can see the whole field. I'm actually sitting behind all of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reporters.

These newer stadiums have their press boxes built more toward the end zones. The owners have realized they can make a lot more money by not wasting 50-yard-line seats on the press.

Both teams have players on the field warming up. Jeff Reed is booting some field goals. Casey Hampton did a lot of stretching.

The early crowd estimate is about 5-to-1 Steelers fans, although it is difficult for me to see the stands on the Cardinals' side of the field.

It's a cloudy day in Tampa -- the sun peeks out every now and then. It's not hot and humid, though. It's supposed to be in the mid-60s for kickoff then dip below 60 by the end of the game.

Inactive Steelers for the game are Anthony Smith, Fernando Bryant, Bruce Davis, Tony Hills, Jason Capizzi, Scott Paxson and Orpheus Roye.

Cardinals inactive are Eric Green, Tim Castille, Victor Hobson, Elliot Vallejo, Brandon Keith, Alan Branch and ex-Steeler tight end Jerame Tuman.

I will probably not be able to update this blog much more today. Please check out Ray Eckenrode's blog for analysis immediately after the game.
