It's still not Sunday

January 30, 2009 - John Mehno

My pick for Sunday would be wings....but the original hot Buffalo wings. No need for any other flavors or spices. The real deal, no frills, make 'em crisp and have the kind of sauce that burns. Count yourself lucky if you have a pizza shop or sandwich place that makes an authentic Italian hoagie. I'm talking about the kind that's overloaded with meat and cheese, and dripping with whatever sauce/dressing didn't stick to the shredded lettuce. And, yes, the lettuce must be shredded. You also need fresh tomato slices, onions and peppers.

Beyond that, you're good with the usual stuff: Chips, dip and drinks. No need to overthink things.

The game? I have no idea. As I've mentioned in radio appearances with Cory Giger, I'm worried that a defense can cover Larry Fitzgerald well and he still makes catches.

Confidential word from Florida is that Buck Frank and his posse have moved most of their activity to St. Petersburg. Seems like Tampa is so "yesterday" after four days there. Keep an eye on MTV for further developments.

For me the most stunning quote to come out of SB week is this one from NBC announcer Al Michaels: "I have never eaten a vegetable in my life, and you can put that on my tombstone." Never? As in, not even once? He's never had a salad? Never had lettuce on a sandwich, never had pickles on a hamburger, never had onions on a hot dog, never had green peppers on a pizza? Hard to believe.

Enjoy the game and remember: If it wouldn't really hurt to lose the money, you're not allowed to call it gambling.
